Pounamu pebble pendant

NZ$ 69.00

New Zealand jade pendant, handmade by

Andy Ruskin

A stylish contemporary hei-pounamu, suggestive of a 'notched pebble' artifact in stunning patterned Marsden kawakawa 'flower' jade. Handsanded to a matte/satin sheen, not highly machine polished. Finished with heavy black 12-plait cord to a length of 24cm (a shortish/collar length on the average person), and has a fastening toggle made from a naturally shaped jade pebble. Comes in felt drawstring bag.

Pounamu is the Maori name for nephrite jade, also commonly referred to as New Zealand greenstone. With qualities of rarity, beauty of colour, translucency and toughness for weapons and tools it was the most precious material to pre-European Maori and it is still revered by them today. It also heavier than most stone and feels lovely to the touch making it ideal for pendants and other ornaments that become more personal the more they are worn and handled.

Size: 40 x 30 x 7 mm approx.
A nice 'everyday' size, suitable for man, woman or child.
