Pare (door lintel panel) in the style of Ngapuhi from the top of the North Island, handcarved in totara with paua inlay, traditionally placed above the entrance to a whare (house).

One interpretation of this intricate carving is that the tewhatawha (long weapons) of the central figure, a tuere (blind eel) representing war and strife, have been entangled and subdued by the sighted figures representing the guardians of the house.
