Graeme Wylie
For almost 20 years Graeme Wylie has had a vision to carve exquisite works of art in pounamu, New Zealand's greenstone and arguably the world's best nephrite jade, and to share his talent and creativity with others. Graeme trained in Hokitika, the 'Jade Capital' of New Zealand, before moving to Akaroa, where Banks Peninsula, with its perfect balance of all the earth's elements, provided just the right location for his studio. The area's beauty, tranquility and easy-going lifestyle fitted perfectly with his dream. Graeme has a true passion for pounamu but also works with other NZ stones including tangiwai (bowenite) and black basalt. His connection with the stone is obvious in the way he works - to see a piece emerge is a magical experience. Graeme was awarded a special commendation in the 2002 Mana Pounamu NZ Jade Exhibition.
