Dave Walker
Dave Walker began working with ceramics in the early 1980s, training in the production of functional stoneware at Ruby Bay Pottery near Nelson. After moving to Akaroa in 1986 he established Nettle Creek Pottery, his present studio and retail outlet.
Dave's interest in drawing & painting has benefitted the development of his skills and ideas for using clay as a creative medium. In 1992 he spent 2 months travelling in Japan with potter and friend George Halliday, exhibiting their own work and visiting potters and artists throughout the country. This trip inspired Dave's move from the making of semi-industrial utilitarian pots to a much broader “hand in hand with nature” individuality. Inspiration from other non-western cultures, such as native American design, has added diversity to his work still shaped from the contemplation of local landscape & nature.
Dave's work has been accepted for major exhibitions throughout New Zealand, Japan and the US.
